Indoor Climbing in Lanzarote. A First-Timer’s Guide

If you're visiting Lanzarote and looking for something fun, active, and a little different — especially on a windy day — indoor climbing might be exactly what you need. At Hang On Lanzarote, we welcome first-timers, tourists, families, and casual adventurers every week. Here’s everything you need to know before your first climb.

What is indoor climbing, exactly?

Indoor climbing is a sport that blends physical movement with mental problem-solving. At our gym in Arrecife — the island’s only public climbing facility — you'll find bouldering walls (up to 5 meters), as well as top-rope and lead climbing for those looking to go a bit higher. No previous experience is needed.

This is a great indoor activity in Lanzarote, especially if you're based nearby in Costa Teguise or Puerto del Carmen and looking to explore beyond the usual tourist routes.

What to expect when you arrive

You don’t need to book in advance. Just show up during opening hours and check in at the desk. You’ll be asked to sign a waiver and get a quick orientation so you know how to move around safely. One of our team members will walk you through how things work, give you gear if you’re renting, and help you choose your first climb.

What to wear and bring

Wear comfortable sports clothing — something you can move easily in. Leggings, shorts, and a t-shirt are perfect. Climbing is done in special shoes that we provide, so you can leave your trainers at home. Bring a water bottle and a hair tie if needed.

Gear rental & prices

All gear (climbing shoes, harness) is available for rent. If it’s your first time, you won’t need anything else. You can purchase a single-day pass (ideal for tourists), a 10-pass punch card to share between friends or families, or a monthly membership with 24/7 access for members. Pricing is available here.

How long does a session last?

It’s totally up to you. Some visitors stay for 45 minutes, others for a couple of hours. There’s no time limit on day passes, and you can re-enter if you take a break.

Is it suitable for beginners?

Absolutely. Our routes are graded by difficulty, and we’ll help you start with the easiest ones. Climbing is not about brute strength — it’s about balance, focus, and problem-solving. You'll surprise yourself.
